ALBAWABA - Netanyahu's memorial speech is interrupted by the chants of "shame" from the relatives of the October 7 attack victims.
Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was interrupted by victims' families who yelled, "Shame on you!" at a memorial service commemorating the first anniversary of the October 7 assault.
Several family members voiced their distress as Netanyahu started his speech, with one yelling, "My father was killed!" According to the French news agency, this sparked a chorus of complaints from the audience, which caused Netanyahu's speech to halt significantly at the event in Jerusalem.
The memorial was shown live throughout the country, and Netanyahu has been the target of a lot of Israeli ire because of alleged shortcomings that made the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack possible. His administration's handling of the current hostage issue, in which a number of people are being held prisoner in Gaza, has also drawn criticism.
Netanyahu said in a different statement that a recent "precise and powerful" military attack on Iran had achieved its goals. Airstrikes on Iranian targets preceded this proclamation, raising fears of a possible regional crisis escalation.
"On Saturday, we fulfilled our pledge to strike back against the Iranian onslaught. The attack on Iran was accurate and successful, accomplishing all of its objectives," Netanyahu said.
