Hizbullah will fight and resist any Israeli plan of aggression against Lebanon, Syria, or the Palestinian people because the resistance fighters are more ready than ever, the Lebanese party’s chief said Sunday.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon “and his generals know that any aggression against Lebanon will not be a walk in the park,” Hassan Nasrallah said during a graduation ceremony. He added that Israel’s ability to bomb the country and kill its citizens would not help the Jewish state accomplish any of its political goals. Quoted in The Daily Star newspaper, Nasrallah also said Arab states should protect themselves from Sharon and George Bush’s plans of aggression, adding that it was the only choice Muslims have for protecting their right of existence.
Following a series of Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace in recent days, Nasrallah indicated that “this fact prompts the party to consider new means of fighting because we cannot stand still in the face of such aggression.” The flights are aimed at intimidating the country’s resistance fighters, he added, but will fail because the resistance has previously suffered more destructive onslaughts and has managed to remain powerful.
Some Israeli newspapers have published information, based on official reports, accusing Hizbullah of having chemical weapons, Nasrallah said. The allegations are “a bunch of lies,” he added, reminding his audience of previous Israeli accusations that claimed Hizbullah had obtained longrange missiles that could hit the center of the Jewish state.
“Just look who is pointing the accusing finger at us,” he said. “Israel has the largest number of nuclear warheads in the region, and what do people expect of a state that elects a man like Sharon as its prime minister? Hizbullah has no weapons of mass destruction, but it has something more powerful, and that is the will of its resistance fighters, who are ready to sacrifice themselves at any moment for their nation.”
Amid a possible US-led war on Iraq, Nasrallah said that Baghdad was not the only target in Washington’s campaign. “The goals of this war are not just to control the region’s rich oil fields, but to totally control the region, in order to secure American colonization for centuries to come,” Nasrallah said.
He said Saturday’s crash of the US space shuttle Columbia proved that Washington was not invincible, adding that the country that threatens the world “stood hopeless in front of God’s will.” (Albawaba.com)
