ALBAWABA - In a report released earlier, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that Israeli strikes killed more than 50 children in northern Gaza within the span of 48 hours.

UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said in a statement that the past weekend was one of the deadliest for children in northern Gaza with more than 50 killed in Israeli attacks across the devastated camp of Jabalia.

"Over 50 children have reportedly been killed in Jabalia, where strikes leveled two residential buildings sheltering hundreds of people," Russell said.

The report added that a UNICEF staff vehicle came under fire from what is believed to be a quadcopter while driving through Jabalia. The car was severely damaged, however, the staff member was not injured.

Russell added that three children were gravely injured in the proximity of a vaccination clinic in Sheikh Radwan, while a polio vaccination campaign was underway.

She added that humanitarian law must be imposed to protect civilians and civilian structures, including residential buildings, as well as humanitarian workers and their vehicles.

"Displacement or evacuation orders do not permit any party to the conflict to regard all individuals or objects in an area as military targets; nor do they exempt them from their obligations to distinguish between military and civilian objectives," Russell said.

The UNICEF called on Israel to launch an investigation into " the circumstances surrounding the attack on its staff member, and that actions to be taken to hold accountable those found responsible,".

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip, and captured military bases, and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 43,341+ people, with more than 102,105+ injuries.

Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
