Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has called on his country’s scientists and the military to press on with their work to thwart attacks by US and British "enemies", a newspaper reported Wednesday.
"While the enemy continues its attacks, we must press ahead with efforts so we can harvest the fruits," Saddam said during Tuesday's meeting with high-level Iraqi officers and scientists, including Fadhel al-Janabi, head of the Iraqi atomic energy agency.
"I invite scientists, engineers and military technicians to continue their efforts and make use of all their capabilities to accomplish new achievements, " Saddam said, quoted by the ruling Baath party's Ath-Thawra daily.
Saddam's address was the second since Iraqi anti-aircraft defenses forced down what Baghdad claimed was a United States drone last month in the northern area of Iraq after it had "violated Iraqi airspace to undertake a spying mission."
Meanwhile, Iraq’s Military Industrialization Minister Abdul Tawaba al-Mulla Howeish, also quoted by Ath-Thawra, said the "achievements of the courageous Iraqi fighters have had a (negative) impact on the attackers as well as their vile designs."
"Thanks to these achievements, the enemy will have to think hard before committing the least hostile act against our people," Howeish said. (Albawaba.com)
