Lufthansa Technik, the leading provider for VIP & Executive Jet Solutions, and Andrew Winch Designs, one of the most innovative and technically competent design teams, launched their joint VIP interior concept for the Boeing 787. Both companies present a nose-to-tail design and express their confidence to attract VIPs as well as executive jet owners and operators around the globe to decide for the brand-new airplane.

“The decision on a Boeing 787 is more than an acquisition: it is as well a statement for absolute perfection in the most advanced form available. Together with Andrew Winch Designs we are taking up this idea of maximising the experiences offered by the extraordinary act of flying, and designed a total experience in the air, not just a beautiful environment”, said Walter Heerdt, Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales at Lufthansa Technik AG. “With the Boeing 787 however, even a proven track record and determination is not enough. To realize the full potential of the 21st century’s dreamliner, we set out to re-explore the dimensions of quality and creativity to create a 787 in line with perfection.”

“Andrew Winch Designs entered the private aviation industry five years ago, working
with Lufthansa Technik on a private Boeing Business Jet 2, and we have since
designed the interiors of numerous private aviation projects from this size, up to and
including, an interior scheme for a private Airbus A380. We are delighted to be working on the Boeing 787 design with Lufthansa Technik, and cannot wait to see her take to the skies,” said Andrew Winch. “Our creative team and Lufthansa Technik’s designers want to show that the possibilities for a cabin are endless. Whether, the client’s requirement is personal, corporate or governmental. No one should feel their choices are limited to that which exists today. “

Experience means everything in the world of VIP completions. Lufthansa Technik has a decade’s long track record of world class engineering and industry best
Practice, believing in total quality and an “open book“ approach to projects. From custom layouts to certification, on board systems to implementation the German Completion Center has always been led by great technical solutions. One remarkable feature of the Boeing 787 interior is the amount of sleeping berths – 32 lie-flat seats or beds are available throughout the cabin, whereof nine are classified as double beds.

The forward lounge with excellent views through the windows is one of the quietest areas on the plane. It incorporates three multifunctional seating areas with generous certified sofas and fully reclining certified arm chairs (certified seating for 12).  The coffee table at each seating area raises and converts into a dining table to enable each area to be used for additional informal dining as required. The room can also be arranged in a modern ‘majlis’ style configuration. Favourite TV programmes and films can be enjoyed on the 50” plasma screen on the forward bulkhead, whilst the aft bulkhead is an excellent space for displaying exquisite artworks.

The two ensuite guest cabins are mirrored to left hand and right hand sides, with an ingenious arrangement around the entrance hall.  Sliding doors create a privatised ensuite lobby for each cabin.  Each cabin includes a very generous single bed, which has the ability to convert to a double bed.  A third Pullman bunk can be hinged down from the inboard wall. The ensuite bathrooms include showers and leather bench over the toilet.  An additional VIP suite encompassing a queen size bed and 42” plasma screen above the feature credenza offers guests a flight in uppermost comfort. The suite also includes a dedicated dressing area and bathroom with shower.

The dining and conference room with full communication facilities is a prime feature of the design, highly visible on entering the plane. The centrally located feature dining table seats 10 for elegant and comfortable dining, in fully certified seats.  Dinner service is effortlessly carried out from the buffet credenzas on either side of the dining table. Full height wardrobe storage is provided for guest coats and bags.  As required, a 42” plasma screen can rise up from the credenza to the aft of the dining table.  This room can be privatised from the entrance hall and forward lounge by solid sliding doors.

The integrated movie theatre is a complete entertainment extravaganza. It is the ideal live entertainment venue as well as a second social seating area or games/cards area. The latest movies can be watched from the generous and sumptuous seating areas, whilst experiencing a full surround sound audio experience.

The central high/low sofa maximises viewing potential, and has a trackable ottoman just in front of it, encouraging one to lie back and completely chill out.  In front of the sofa are three trackable fully reclining cinema chairs, flanked on either side by two comfortable chaise longue – which can also pivot in the movie theatre configuration. Supplied and serviced by the adjacent galley, guests at the bar can relax on fixed bar stools or on reclining (certified) chairs, whilst being entertained by the bars dedicated audio system.

The full width light and spacious Master Stateroom experiences maximum privacy due to its location at the end of the plane. On entering the suite through the feature doors, one arrives in the sitting room, and can enjoy views throughout the whole suite due to the glazed partitions dividing the space. The sitting room includes a comfortable sofa, 42” plasma screen, chaise longue and table to the left hand side.  The Owners private office with generous feature desk, library and full communication capabilities, is located off the sitting room.  These two areas can be privatised from the main bedroom by privacy curtains/screens. Behind the bedroom is the generous bathroom with large circular shower, his and her basins, full height wardrobe, dedicated storage and a private lavatory.

During upcoming show events Lufthansa Technik and Andrew Winch will update on their activities and are expected to present a look-through model of the Boeing 787 VIP model at next year’s EBACE in Geneva.
