Global and regional digital leader, LG Electronics, launched its flagship 55-inch LCD monitor in the Middle East today.
This is the world’s largest LCD monitor and is equipped with a large XGA screen to enable wide viewing angles. It has a brightness of 600 cd/m2 (candelas per meter squared), with a contrast ratio is 600:1 and a variety of features for multimedia use. The maximum resolution of 1366x768 WXGA makes it ideal for public displays.
“The demand for liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors is growing exponentially in the Middle East. Industry analysts credit LCD monitors’ improved performance and sharper brightness and contrast levels as the key reasons for their strong performance. According to IDC reports, in the Middle East, LCD monitors passed a watershed stage in February 2003, when sales surpassed those of traditional CRT monitors that previously dominated the market,” said C H Lee, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
“Our strategy for monitors is to have the widest range in screen sizes of any brand in the market. LG can develop a wide range of LCD screens because it is the world’s largest producer of LCD panels. With the introduction of this new line up of sleek LCD monitors, geared towards today’s diverse consumers, from die-hard gamers to business professionals, we aim to capture 54 per cent market share and sell 586,000 sets in the region this year,” added Lee.
The safety aspect of LCD monitors is also a huge attraction for consumers as these monitors, unlike CRT monitors, emit no radiation and therefore pose no health risks. Many distributors and systems integrators are now bundling LCD monitors with their branded and non-branded PCs.
Industry analysts credit LCD monitors’ improved performance and sharper brightness and contrast levels as the key reasons for their strong performance. IDC also predicts that demand for LCD monitors is likely to surpass traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors by 2008.
LG’s flatron monitors are also on display at Gitex this year. Flatron monitors L1780Q and L1980Q are arguably the slimmest flat-screens in their class. Mounted on a double-hinged arm, the monitors can easily be bent and rotated into practically any position, or be set either horizontally or vertically. Software automatically reorients the screen’s content as needed. The monitors have active-matrix TFT (thin film transistor) screens with a native resolution of 1,280 by 1,024, and can be viewed from a 160-degree viewing angle without sacrificing image quality.
All Flatron monitors use LG’s proprietary Flatron f Engine technology; this is the world’s first picture enhancing chip for LCD monitors. LG’s superior IPS technology enables 176-degree wide-viewing angle to deliver clear pictures without an after-image at any angle, as well as the fastest response time of 12ms, exceeding the standard response time of 25ms and 16ms. All LG LCD monitors meet low emission compliance standards and are PC and Mac compatible.
LG’s stylish monitors have won international accolades for its user-friendly function, brilliant picture quality and stylish design. One of the slimmest monitors in its class, the Flatron L1980Q won the Reddot Design Award 2005, one of Europe’s most prestigious design awards.
