Consumption of cosmetics and fragrances in the Gulf is one of the highest per capita in the world, with the average purchase estimated to be in the region of US$317 per head, according to recent reports.
Despite this, the constant air-conditioning and hot weather exacerbates skin related problems. To get to the root of the problem, global and regional digital leader LG Electronics organised a workshop for around 140 women at the LG Digital Centre, Dubai, to empower women on skincare. Specialist dermatologist Dr. Fatima Habib of CosmeSurge, Jumeirah Medical Centre, Dubai, led the interactive workshop that dealt with skin problems and effective skincare treatments including treatments for acne and facial aging. The lecture was followed by a beauty and skincare demonstration by Laura Kalouche, consultant beautician and stylist, Pace e Luce saloon, Dubai.
“Everyone can have radiant skin if they take regular care of it. But most of us tend to neglect it and our stressful, fast-paced lifestyles add to the damage. But it is never too late to reverse the environmental damage caused and, at LG, we are committed to putting people’s needs and aspirations at the heart of our business,” said K H Kim, President, LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Operations.
LG invests heavily in community projects in the Middle East and around the world, and is trying to reach out to women in the UAE to educate and empower them on health and welfare issues.
Most people who neglect their skin tend to panic when the signs of ageing become prominent and go for cosmetic surgery. But it is better to use non-invasive treatments that work on the skin gently and gradually, explained Dr Fatima Habib of CosmeSurge clinic, Dubai.
“Sun damage, smoking, alcohol, pollution, and even heredity accelerate the facial aging process. It requires multiple treatment modalities, beginning with skin health restoration, micro-liposuction, Botox treatments and, as a last resort, a face-lift. However, none of the treatments have a permanent effect,” added Dr Habib.
Cause related marketing has been an area of focus for the company and LG actively supports the welfare of the communities where it is present. Other topics in the LG community health campaign include good parenting, mother and child relations, and menopause. LG Electronics is committed to rolling out the project elsewhere in the UAE and the GCC throughout this year.
