Lebanese Prime Minister Omar Karami will ask on Wednesday to be excused from forming his country's new government "since the others have rejected a unified national government."
Speaking to the Lebanese Al-Safir on Tuesday, Karami said that he has no wish to form a government that does not represent Lebanon's unity.
He said he is to meet with Assembly Speaker Nabih Berri Tuesday and with President Emile Lahoud Wednesday to discuss deliberations held with the opposition, adding that he will also speak of their disinterest in joining a unified national government.
Karami stressed that he cannot form a regular government as the situation is critical and requires the participation of all factions, adding that there are political, security and economic problems in Lebanon and that the country cannot be left in such a state.
A statement issued by the Hariri bloc Monday had called for "a swift formation of a government that does not provoke the Lebanese and seeks to hold elections on time."
