A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the expansion of Iran-Lebanon education cooperation was signed in Tehran on Sunday.
The MoU was signed by Iran's Minister of Education Morteza Haji and Lebanese Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Abdurrahim Murad.
According to the MoU, Lebanese school students will be taught Persian and the textbooks for the Persian courses will be prepared by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Tehran Times reported. Iranian experts will train teachers of the Persian courses.
In the course of the meeting, the Iranian minister stated that the promotion of education from a qualitative point of view is a major objective of Iran’s educational system.
Furthermore, the MoU emphasized the expansion of cooperation between the two countries and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Murad arrived in Tehran on Saturday on a five-day official visit to the country. Murad's current visit is in response to last year's visit to Lebanon by his Iranian counterpart.
The Iranian and Lebanese officials are also expected to explore means of enhancing bilateral relations and inking agreements on mutual cooperation.
During his stay in Iran, the Lebanese minister is to get familiarized with the educational system in Iran and is to visit several educational institutions.
