At least two US soldiers were killed Monday morning by a grenade that was thrown on an American military patrol in central Baghdad.
Local eyewitnesses told Reuters the two troops have died after a man dropped a grenade on their vehicle from a road bridge at an intersection in broad daylight.
Three Iraqi policemen said later three soldiers appeared to have been killed in the blast, but there was no US confirmation of the attack.
Elsewhere, witnesses said a US soldier had been killed when a rocket-propelled grenade was fired at a tank late Sunday in Baquba, 60 kilometers from the Iraqi capital.
With the new deaths, at least 52 U.S. soldiers had died since President Bush declared an end to major combat on May 1.
Meanwhile, General Richard Myers, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Sunday that following the deaths of Saddam Hussein's two sons, he is sure the ousted Iraqi leader will be found.
Speaking on arrival in Baghdad, Myers said there has been a big increase in the number of informants coming forward, providing evidence of weapons caches and the locations of Iraqi officials. He expressed confidence it is only a matter of time until Saddam is captured. (Albawaba.com)
