Six car bombs went off in the Iraqi capital Monday, killing at least six people and injuring dozens, while police discovered the bodies of 17 Iraqis. The first car bomb exploded Monday in a busy area of central Baghdad, killing at least three people and injuring 25, police said. According to the AP, the parked car went off during morning rush hour on a major street in the Bag al-Muadim section of Baghdad.
Among the wounded were two policemen who were directing traffic, said police Lt. Col. Falah al-Muhammadawi.
Later, bombs hidden in two cars parked near Mustansiriya University in eastern Baghdad went off, killing three civilians, including a 10-year-old boy, and injuring 22 people, said police Lt. Bila Ali.
Additionally, a car bomb exploded in a square near a U.S. military convoy in central Baghdad, injuring at least 11 civilians, including a young girl, said police Maj. Abbas Mohammed Selman.
Meanwhile, bombs in two cars parked about 100 yards apart then exploded one after another near Iraqi police patrols in the New Baghdad part of the capital, wounding three policemen and three civilians, said police Lt. Ali Abass.
Police in Abu Ghraib, just outside Baghdad, found a small truck containing the bodies of 15 men who had been tortured in captivity, said police Lt. Maitham Abdul Razzaq. Two other corpses were located in southwest Baghdad; one appeared to have been hanged, said police Capt. Qassim Hassan.
Elsewhere, a roadside bomb, two drive-by shootings and a mortar round killed six other people, police said. In one attack Monday morning, a roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol south of Baghdad killed one civilian and injured three soldiers, police said.
At least 29 Iraqis died in other violence Sunday.
