A car bomb targeting an Australian military convoy went off near the Australian Embassy Monday, killing three Iraqis and injuring eight others, according to local officials. Australia's defense force spokesman said in Canberra that three Australian soldiers were lightly wounded in the attack near that country's embassy in Baghdad

Spokesman Col. Adnan Abdul-Rahman said the bomb was targeting the convoy when it detonated in the Karrada neighborhood. U.S. Maj. Scott Stanger told The AP that the explosives were hidden inside a taxi parked on the side of the road, and the bomb detonated when the convoy drove by.

Also in Baghdad, one US soldier was killed and five others injured when a roadside bomb exploded in the path of a convoy in western Baghdad, the US military said. An Estonian soldier was killed in a roadside bombing against an Estonian convoy in western Baghdad.
