Jordan's King Abdullah II will arrive in the West Bank next week for talks with Palestinian leaders regarding the Middle East peace process. Abdullah is expected to visit the town of Ramallah, where he will attend a memorial ceremony in honor of his late father, King Hussein.
Security reasons had forced Abdullah to postpone a similar visit planned to the West Bank last month. The king will also visit Israel on his trip, according to the AP, in honor of the 10th anniversary of the assassination of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
"King Abdullah is expected to participate in the inauguration of a garden dedicated to his father at the Rabin Center," an Israeli official told reporters. The dedication of the King Hussein Memorial Gardens in Tel Aviv will take place on November 13.
Meanwhile, negotiations continue regarding the reopening the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, which has remained mainly closed since the withdrawal of Israel from the Strip in September.
Israel insists that cameras be installed at the crossing for security reasons.
Wolfensohn and Abbas meet to discuss Rafah crossing
President Mahmoud Abbas discussed the matter with Middle East Quartet Special Envoy James Wolfensohn in Ramallah on Tuesday, according to WAFA.
"Hopefully we will sign an agreement after a tripartite meeting on Wednesday," one European diplomat told reporters.
Dr. Saeb Erikat, head of PLO Negotiations Affairs Department told reporters that the meetings between Abbas and Wolfensohn has been successful. He added that President Abbas appreciated the efforts of Mr. Wolfensohn.
