Jordanian police are questioning a 42-year-old man who has been charged with the shooting death of his son late Friday night following an alleged domestic dispute, reported the Jordan Times newspaper.
The victim, Hussam I., 22, an engineering student at the private Al Israa University who lived in the Haj Hassan suburb of Amman, was shot once in the head, sources said.
According to one source, the victim had constant arguments with his father, and on the night of the incident he urged his father to buy him a new car.
The source said that when the father refused, an argument ensued, and “the father grabbed a gun that was in the house and shot his son once in the head.”
He said the father had returned on Thursday from Saudi Arabia where he worked to visit his family.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Criminal Prosecutor Thaher Rawashdeh charged the father with manslaughter.
Also in the metropolitan area, a newly-wed, 22-year-old woman died of carbon monoxide inhalation while taking a shower, a second source told the paper on Saturday.
According to the source, a gas heater pipe had burst, and the woman died of asphyxiation.
Meanwhile, authorities are still awaiting the extradition of an Iraqi suspect from Syria, whom authorities in Amman said was responsible for the murder of a Kuwaiti student in August.
“We are still waiting for the suspect to be extradited in order to take the necessary legal actions against him,” the source said.
Majed Hethal, 30, a student at the private Philadelphia University, was found dead in a culvert under a road near Jerash.
Haidar Jassem Khalaf reportedly confessed to Syrian authorities last week to murdering Hethal on Aug. 17, with the help of an Iraqi accomplice who is still at large – Albawaba.com
