King Abdullah of Jordan arrived in China on Thursday for talks with president Jiang Zemin and other Chinese leaders.
President Jiang told the king that China wants stronger ties with Arab countries to help promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians, according to AFP.
"China is ready to reinforce its cooperation with the international community and notably with Arab countries in ! order to continue to promote a resolution of the Middle East question," Jiang was quoted by Chinese state television as telling King Abdullah.
"Violence and military force are not only incapable of resolving the problem, but risk above all aggravating the lack of understanding and the hatred between the two sides," said Jiang.
King Abdullah, who earlier Friday started his second visit to China since ascending the throne in 1999, said before leaving Amman that Beijing should use its influence to help "break the circle" of Middle East violence.
He said he would also urge Jiang to bring a greater Chinese role to bear in "ending the stalemate between Iraq and the United Nations, as well as the United States,” a report by China's Xinhua news agency said. (Albawaba.com)
