A 34-year-old Japanese school teacher was turned over to public prosecutors Sunday in connection with the death of a teenage girl who was found handcuffed and barefoot on a highway with a fractured skull.
Ken Fukumoto was arrested on Saturday, seven weeks after 12-year-old Osaka schoolgirl Noriko Kamiie died. His arrest follows a spate of sex crimes by Japanese school teachers.
"We sent the suspect to the district public prosecutor's office this afternoon on charges of causing death as a result of detainment and confinement," said a prefecture police spokesman in Kobe, western Japan.
"The suspect has confessed that he wanted to play with a young woman," said the spokesman.
Fukomoto was arrested after police checked dialing records of the girl's cellular phone, press reports said.
Fukumoto, who was on sick leave from a school in Hyogo prefecture, which neighbors Osaka, met the girl via a telephone dating service, reports said -- TOKYO (AFP)
