Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman, Ports and Free Zone Authority, was named as ‘Personality of the Year’ in the inaugural Lloyd’s List Middle East-Indian Subcontinent Awards that were announced last night (Wednesday, November 16, 2005), at the Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai. The award given to Bin Thaniah is a recognition of his contribution to DP World and the region’s maritime industry.
The award ceremony was attended by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, Ports and Free Zone Authority and Executive Chairman, Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and over 400 maritime industry leaders.
In addition to ‘Personality of the Year’, awards were given to 14 companies for their contribution to the maritime industry. DP World won the prestigious ‘Container Terminal Operator’ award, while Dubai Drydocks won the Shipyard-Shiprepair award.
Among the other main awards that were given away included the ‘Transport, Logistics and Freight’ prize; the ‘Energy, Gas and Oil’ award; ‘Ship Manager’ award; ‘Marine Insurance Company of the Year’; ‘Trade Finance Award’ and ‘Tanker Operator of the Year’ award.
“It is indeed a big honour for me to be named as the ‘Personality of the Year’, and I am glad that such an award has been introduced in the Middle East, which recognises the contribution and achievements of companies and individuals in the maritime industry,” said an elated Bin Thaniah.
