Guy Reif, the Israeli police station commander arrested last week on suspicion of firing shots at his own police station, faces a request Thursday for an extension to his remand in custody so that he can be questioned about suspicions that he also threw a hand-grenade at the building, reported Haarez.

The Hebrew Y.net news site reported that the officer is suspected of aiming to create a false picture of a likely "Arab revolt" against the police. He was arrested as prime suspect of shooting on the police station he heads. During the investigation the police are checking if he stood behind other unsolved shooting cases on police stations in the area.

Channel One news reported Wednesday night that Reif was also suspected of switching the barrel of his M-16 after last October's rioting in Arab villages in the Galilee. As Misgav commander, Reif was in charge of putting down the rioting in Sakhnin, Arabeh and Kafr Manda. Five of the 13 Arabs killed by police fire during the rioting died in those three villages.

Reif won national attention earlier this year when he was assaulted by the father of one of the dead men during testimony at the Or Commission inquiry into the riots. Reif has admitted to the commission that he fired live ammunition during the rioting, but denied that he hit any of the victims – Albawaba.com
