A 49-year-old Tel Aviv District Court judge was assassinated in a drive-by shooting Monday night in the nortern Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Hasharon.

A gunman shot Judge Adi Azar at point-blank range from a motorcycle on outside his home. The assailant escaped.

Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon expressed "deep shock" at the killing.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Yosef Lapid rejected a claim of responsibility by Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades. "There is no suspicion that this was an act of terror," Lapid said.
