ALBAWABA - Israel Katz, the Israeli defence minister, called on the army to put a plan for "voluntary" departures from the Gaza Strip days after US President Donald Trump's plan to "take over" the enclave, local Israeli media reported on Thursday.
He said: "I have instructed the (army) to prepare a plan that would allow any Gaza resident who wishes to leave to do so, to any country willing to accept them."
Katz maintained: "The plan will include exit options through land crossings, as well as special arrangements for departure by sea and air."
During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump unveiled his plan to take over Gaza and resettle Palestinians who live there to neighbouring countries; Egypt and Jordan.
Trump's plan on the Gaza Strip was met with international condemnation by many world leaders in Russia, China, Turkey and other countries.
Trump suggested resettling Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries under a redevelopment plan claiming that he will turn the strip into “the Riviera of the Middle East”. Jordan and Egypt strongly rejected the idea of displacing Palestinians from their homeland.
