ALBAWABA - Israel attacked Sana'a International Airport and Hodeidah port in Yemen on Thursday. Israeli media reported that the military has raised its alert level to preparation for Houthi retaliation from Ansar Allah.
Houthi media reported three dead and 11 wounded from the attacks. The group's spokeswoman called the strikes “Zionist crimes against the Yemeni people” and said Yemen will continue to assist Gaza despite the Israeli onslaught. The enemy's belief that its misdeeds would quiet us is misguided. He said Yemen would stick to its beliefs.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks targeted "key Houthi installations in Sana’a and Hodeidah." Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called the operation a “precise campaign against strategic sites,” indicating Israel's willingness to attack harder. Gallant said, “We will pursue and eliminate Houthi leaders, just as we have done elsewhere.”
Israeli military sources said that dozens of aircraft participated in the operation, which forced Sana'a International Airport to close when its control tower was destroyed. Both Hodeidah port and energy facilities were targeted.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation said that this was Israel's fourth solo action in Yemen with US notice.
The Houthis continue to attack Israeli-linked boats in the Red Sea and shoot missiles and drones into Israel, particularly Tel Aviv, raising tensions. The organization will stop attacking once Israel's Gaza assault, which has killed over 153,000 people since October 2023, ends.
In reaction to Houthi maritime actions, a U.S.-led coalition has bombed Yemen. The Houthis have responded with intermittent assaults. Israeli authorities said similar attacks will continue to eradicate Yemeni threats.
