Early Wednesday, an Israeli air strike hit the Gaza Strip home of a prominent Hamas parliament member in what the army said was an attack on a weapons factory. There were no reports of casualties in the air strike on the building of Mariam Farhat, also known as Umm Nidal, who has often expressed pride at the death of three of her six sons during the Palestinian uprising.

Residents were warned in advance of the attack, in which the building was badly damaged.

Farhat is one of the best known of the Hamas parliamentarians, first gaining attention for appearing with her 17-year-old son Mohammed in a video recorded before he carried out a shooting attack on a Jewish settlement in 2000 in which he killed five settlers before being shot dead.

In another incident, Palestinian sources in Gaza Strip reported that a Palestinian youth was killed overnight inby Israeli gunfire. According to Palestinian, the youth approached the area of the "Erez" Crossing near Beit Hanoun and soldiers opened fire on him. He was killed on the spot.
