Israel’s National Religious Party leader, Yitzhak Levy, urged Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Sunday to either order Israeli troops to recapture the Palestinian-controlled neighborhood of Abu Snaineh or to evacuate the Jewish settlements in Hebron, reported Haaretz newspaper.

"I appeal to the prime minister and say: take a courageous decision. Come and say 'I intend to do this, or do that," Levy said.

"There are only two possibilities - either you evacuate the community, or you hold onto the community there. I say this with great sadness, because we've reached the decisive moment," Levy said, quoted as telling Israel Radio.

"The prime minister must make a decision. If we are keeping the Jewish community of Hebron in place, we must take the heights that threaten the community. If not, I do not see the situation calming down, and people are in daily danger, truly in danger for their lives.”

The Israeli army imposed a complete closure on the neighborhood as a 10-month baby died by Palestinian fire which also injured her father, a Jewish settler.

"This decision cannot simply be skipped over. You cannot leave Jews under a salvo of fire, with bullets daily penetrating into their homes.
