Israel’s Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz is to visit the United States at the end of the month, on the heels of Israeli Prime Minster Ariel Sharon, who will arrive in Washington on June 26, reported the Jerusalem Post on Sunday.
It will be the first visit by Mofaz to the US since October 1999, said the paper.
Meanwhile, Haaretz newspaper reported that Knesset Speaker Avraham Burg left for Washington Sunday for a series of meetings with officials in the Bush administration. Sources in Burg's office said that the visit was meant to bolster his foreign affairs image in preparation for the run-off with Defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer for the leadership of the Labor party in September – Albawaba.com
