Iraqi products found their way on to public display in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, in spite of the long-standing economic embargo imposed on Baghdad.
The third Iraqi Products Exhibition, which kicked off in Beirut Saturday, serves as a “window for Iraqi producers to reach Lebanese consumers”, Iraq’s Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Mahdi Saleh was quoted as saying by Qatar’s News Agency.
The Iraqi Minister, who opened the exhibition with Lebanese counterpart, Dr. Bassel Fleihan, placed the volume of trading exchange between Lebanon and Iraq at around $US 1.3 billion, QNA added.
In addition, he stressed the great likelihood for a high growth in trading exchange, if and once the international sanctions were to be lifted. In this regard, he cited the free trade agreement signed between Baghdad and Beirut, under which administrative restrictions and customs duties were lifted. (Albawaba.com)
