On Sunday, Libyan President Kadaffi received Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's envoy, Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz.
Aziz conveyed a message from President Saddam Hussein with regards to coordinating positions between the two countries on the issues that would be discussed during the upcoming Arab summit to be held in Beirut.
The meeting emphasized the need of supporting the defiant Palestinian Intifada and providing protection for the Palestinians.
In addition, the two discussed American threats against Iraq and the necessity of confronting this unjust “flagrant attack”, which targets the “Arab homeland and all Arab national forces… devoted to their independence”, according to the official INA News Agency.
For his part, the Libyan leader asked Aziz to convey his greetings to President Saddam Hussein and expressed Libya's solidarity with Iraq.
The Libyan President affirmed his country's firm position calling for lifting the decade-old embargo on Iraq.
Meanwhile, Aziz separately met Saturday with Secretary General of the General Popular Committee for African Unity Dr. Ali Abdulsalam Al-Triki.
The two reviewed issues which are to be dealt with during the Beirut Arab summit. The meeting, attended by Iraq's ambassador to Libya, also considered relations between Tripoli and Baghdad.
The Iraqi President's envoy arrived in Tripoli Saturday evening in the context of a tour, which includes Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. (Albawaba.com)
