United States and British warplanes coming from bases in Kuwait, supported by AWACS, which came from bases in the Saudi Kingdom, violated Iraq's airspace on Thursday, May 29, carrying out 30 sorties, the official Iraq News Agency INA reported Saturday.
A spokesman for the Iraqi Air Defense Command said that the U.S and British warplanes flew over the areas of Bissiya, Jeleba, Nassiriya, Salman, Lassif, Ashbicha and Nakheb.
On Friday evening, the warplanes attacked civilian installations in Thiqar province. As a result, three civilians were injured, the spokesman added, according to INA.
Iraqi missile force and anti-aircraft artillery drove the “enemy warplanes” back to their bases in Kuwait, the spokesman expressed.
Between December 17, 1998 to May 30, 2002, the “enemy warplanes”, according to the News Agency, carried out a total of 38,905 sorties from Saudi, Kuwaiti and Turkish airspace, of which 12,757 sorties from Kuwaiti airspace. (Albawaba.com)
