United States and British warplanes supported by AWACS, which came from bases in Turkey, “violated Iraq's airspace” on Wednesday, carrying out an amount of 14 sorties, according to the official Iraq News Agency INA.
A spokesman for the Iraqi Air Defense Command said that the U.S and British warplanes flew over areas of Zakho, Amadiya, Dohuk, Aqra, Rawandouz, Arbil, Tela'far, Sinjar and Mosul.
Iraqi missile force and anti-aircraft artillery drove the “enemy warplanes” back to their bases in Turkey, the spokesman further added.
Meanwhile, on the same day, according to INA, U.S and British warplanes coming from bases in Kuwait, supported by AWACS, which came from bases in Saudi Arabia, “violated Iraq's airspace” and carried out 30 sorties.
The spokesman said that the warplanes flew over areas of Basra, Qurna, Qal'at-Saleh, Amara, Artawi, Bissiya, Jeleba, Nassiriya, Rafa'I, Salman, Lassif, Ashbicha and Nakheb.
