An Iraqi Air Defense Command spokesman said that United States and British warplanes, supported by AWACS, coming from bases in Turkey, violated Iraq's airspace on Tuesday and carried out 14 sorties from Turkish airspace, according to the official Iraq News Agency INA.
The warplanes flew over areas of Zakho, Amadiya, Duhok, Aqra, Rawandos, Dokan, Arbil and Mosul, northern Iraq.
They attacked civilian installations in the Neniveh province and wounded five civilians.
According to the News Agency, Iraqi missile force and anti-aircraft artillery drove the “enemy warplanes” back to their bases in Turkey, the spokesman added.
Since December 17, 1998 and up till May 28, 2002, the “enemy warplanes” carried out a total of 38,785 sorties from Saudi, Kuwaiti and Turkish airspace, of which 8,614 sorties were from Turkey, INA added. (Albawaba.com)
