A group of Iraqi fighters told an Arabic channel television that assaults on American occupation forces are executed by Islamists rather than supporters of the ousted president, Saddam Hussein.
"I swear to you in the name of God that we know about all the resistance activities that carried out inside Iraq," a masked fighter have said in an interview, aired by Abu Dhabi television.
"They are all carried out in the name of God, none of them have any links to the former regime... All Iraqis have been harmed by the former regime," he conveyed.
"America and its allies say they have tanks, they have warplanes, they have technology. We have something stronger than all of this. We have God supporting us," he said.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council, which will decide whether the transitional Iraqi government is the legitimate representative of the Iraqi people, will not announce a decision during its first review of the situation on the ground Tuesday, UN sources assessed.
A delegation of three members of the US-appointed Governing Council was due to address the Security Council on Tuesday in an open session to discuss the situation in Iraq.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said Monday that the Governing Council put in place by the US-led occupiers was a "positive step."
"I think, given these circumstances, and the fact that you couldn't possibly organise elections in Iraq today, it was a good method of putting together a Council and I hope the Security Council will see it that way and grant the group its support," he told reporters, according to AFP. "I believe that the establishment of the Governing Council is a positive step."
