Iraqi police Monday found 14 bodies of men tortured and killed on the southern outskirts of Baghdad, a security source said. The corpses were found at a place called Tuwairegh, he said. On Sunday, 45 bodies were found in the capital.

Meanwhile, Syria's foreign minister called Sunday for a timetable for the withdrawal of American forces. He spoke in Baghdad as he started a landmark visit to Iraq. Syria broke diplomatic ties with Iraq in 1982, although trade ties were restored in 1997.

In a joint news conference with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshiyar Zebari, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim said "I have come to Iraq out of the Syrian firm desire to work together for the interest of the two sisterly and neighboring countries."

"Syria feels pain for each drop of Iraqi blood spelt, and repeats condemnation of all acts of terrorism which took place in Iraq and hurt the country's people and establishments."
