Iran's speaker of parliament, Mehdi Karroubi, met Sunday with Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb and other ministers to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
Karroubi said that appropriate grounds for Iran and Jordan exist to expand their relations in all fields.
Karroubi, the first Iranian speaker of parliament to visit Amman since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, held talks with King Abdullah, and said Tehran was looking to further develop bilateral ties, especially economic relations, according to the agency.
Abu Ragheb said that Jordan takes pride in engaging in various projects with Iran.
Iranian officials told the agency that a senior Jordanian delegation would visit Tehran soon to discuss Iran's proposed participation in the construction of an estimated 650-million-dollar-water pipeline to conduit water from the Dissi aquifer in the far south, to the parched capital, Amman, said IRNA.
Iran has in the past repeatedly expressed interest in constructing the mega-project in exchange for long-term supply of Jordanian fertilizers.
King Abdullah is expected to visit Tehran in late February on his first trip there since he ascended to the throne two years ago -- Albawaba.com
