President Mohammad Khatami marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan Tuesday by calling several leaders of Islamic countries to press Iran's positions in support of the Palestinians, Iranian television said.
The report said Khatami spoke by telephone with Saudi King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates.
Khatami wished the leaders best wishes for Eid al-Fitr, the feast marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, and stressed the need "to support the Palestinian people's struggle" and to "liberate the Palestinian territories, especially Jerusalem" from Israeli control.
He also spoke to them of the need "to establish stability on the oil market," the television said.
