Visiting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad held talks Friday with the Damascus-based representatives of Palestinian factions. Maher Taher, an official in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, told KUNA some 10 officials have met Ahmadinejad and discussed the Palestinian sitaution in general and the pressures on Syria and Lebanon.
Ahmadinejad, said Taher, said Iran was strongly backing the Palestinian people until they regain their legitimate rights. Taher added the Palestinian officials briefed Ahmadinejad on the security and political conditions in Palestine.
On Thursday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad advised western countries to open their doors to Jews to prove their sincerity in supporting people's freedom. Ahmadinejad made the remark in Damascus Thursday while addressing a group of Syrian senior political, academic and cultural figures gathered in "Al-Assad National Library".
He questioned the sincerity of the western countries in their claims to support freedom and wondered if they would advocate application of this very notion to the immigrants who have entered Palestine from all over the world. Addressing the western countries, he said: "Would you open the doors of your own countries to these immigrants in a way that they could travel to any part of Europe they choose? Would you offer necessary guarantees that you would provide their security when they come to your countries and not set up another anti-semitic wave in Europe?"
He expressed his confidence that no single immigrant would continue living in the occupied lands if the doors of Europe were opened to them.
According to Irna, Ahmadinejad noted that the West, instead of offering appropriate answers to his new questions, would launch a ballyhoo soon claiming that he was talking against the global peace.
