Any measure aimed at resolving possible misunderstandings between Iran and the UAE should be based on goodwill, confidence, and mutual respect and it should be taken in an amicable atmosphere, said an Iran's Parliament member Thursday, cited by official news agency (IRNA).

Iranian MP Abdol-Mohammad Nezamoleslami who has taken part in the current Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Havana said Iranian Majlis is of the opinion that the measure of Iranian government was the best sign of goodwill for removal of possible misunderstanding and the UAE is expected to adopt similar measures to show its willingness in this respect.

The UAE, backed by all Arab countries, demands that Iran returns the Greater and Smaller Tunb, and Abu Moussa Arabian Gulf Islands which the Iranians took hold of after Britain left the area in 1972.

The UAE representative in a brief speech at the IPU meeting Thursday repeated the country's demands regarding the ownership of the islands.

The Arab leaders who met at a summit in Amman last month called on Iran to accept international arbitration on the dispute, an appeal which Iran rejected categorically – Albawaba.com
