A first round of talks began between neighboring Iraq and Iran at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in the capital city of Baghdad.
The talks focused on the humanitarian issue and a follow-up on what had been implemented during previous meetings.
According to the Iraqi News Agency INA, Chairman of the Neighboring States Office, Dr. Ibrahim Shuja Sultan led the Iraqi delegation during the meeting, while the Iranian delegation was led by Hussein Habiballah Sadiqi, Head of the Gulf Office in the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri met Saturday with the Iranian official and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting dealt with bilateral relations and ways of advancing them in all fields in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries, according to INA.
Moreover, the two sides discussed the situation in the region, especially the Israeli escalation and the aggressive attacks perpetrated by its army against the Palestinians, INA added.
The Iranian official praised and described as a “great step” Iraq’s decision on oil exports which came in support of the Palestinian people.
Attending the meeting were Chairman of Neighboring Countries at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and the Iranian Charge d' Affaires in Baghdad.
The Iranian official arrived in Baghdad on Friday heading an official Iranian delegation on a several-day visit to Iraq. (Albawaba.com)
