Iran and Tunisia on Monday signed a free trade agreement, as well as three other accords to boost trade ties, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
The agreements were in the areas of joint investments, handicrafts and free trade zones.
The agreement on joint investments and elimination of double taxation, as well as the final draft of the Fourth Iran-Tunisia Joint Economic Commission meeting, were signed by Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and his Tunisian counterpart Habib Ben Yahia, said the agency.
Another agreement on handicrafts was signed between the head of Iran's Handicraft Organization, Abdol Majid Rahmani-Khalili, and Tunisian Ambassador to Iran Saeed Nasser Ramadan.
The free trade agreement was signed between the head of the Kish Free Trade Zone, Hossein Qasemi, and a Tunisian FTZ official.
Earlier on Monday, Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said Iran and Tunisia had opened a new chapter in their relations, noting that the two countries held similar views on international issues.
"Iran and Tunisia, which have opened a new page in their ties, are intent on experiencing Islamic democracy," Khatami said in a meeting – Albawaba.com
