2,000 health projects in Iran will be set up in the coming five years, Iran's deputy health minister, Ali Asghar Farshad, was quoted by the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) as saying Monday.

The projects aim at creating job opportunities and meeting the basic needs of local residents, said the official, adding that most of the health programs will be implemented in deprived regions of the country.

Some 80,000 hospital-beds are currently available in the country, said the official, adding that by the year 2005, the country plans to increase the total number to 100,000.

Also, 100 hospitals will be in the various sectors of the country, added the official.

According to a recent study published by the Iranian health department, only 80 percent of Iranians have access to health services -- Albawaba.com
