Arab leaders meeting for their first summit in four years should finally accept that the peace process with Israel has been fruitless, the Iranian press charged Saturday.

"It is time for Arab leaders to make a momentous decision on Palestine," the reformist Iran Daily said, adding: "It must be accepted that resistance is the only way out of the crisis."

It said the Cairo summit "must show to the community of nations that the Arab world is determined to confront Israel's unending obsession with

power."

The conservative Tehran Times blasted Israel as "a rogue entity that has no respect for international law" and said Arab leaders should consider "using the most powerful lever at their disposal, namely crude oil, to bring the Zionist regime and countries supporting it to their knees."

Kayhan International, another conservative daily, said: "It is very strange that Arab officials still believe in the so-called peace process."

It said Arab leaders had "once again failed to realize the seriousness of the situation in Palestine" and that talk for peace should be abandoned.

"After the killing of more than 120 Palestinians in the occupied territories by the Zionist armed forces, rhetoric about saving the 'peace process' will serve no positive purpose," it said.

Arab leaders were beginning a two-day emergency summit in Cairo on Saturday aimed at making Israel pay a diplomatic price for its deadly crackdown on the Palestinians.

The Arab leaders are planning limited "measures" against Israel while reaffirming peace as "a strategic choice," delegates in Cairo said.
