Intel® Software College, part of the Intel® Software & Solutions Group, Intel’s worldwide resource for the software community announced a collaboration with the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) in Egypt aimed at providing training and education on emerging Intel technologies to university students.

Announcing this first of its kind initiative in Cairo, Karim Fahmy, General Manager, Egypt, LEVANT and North Africa, Intel Corporation said, “This alliance further strengthens Intel’s sustained commitment to collaborate with education institutes and government leaders in the region and its ongoing drive to help today's students prepare for the demands of tomorrow and to promote innovation and advancement of technology.”

He added, “We are pleased to announce this initiative in Egypt the first of its kind in the region. This is part of our commitment to the “Intel Digital Transformation Initiative for the Middle East”, which is a comprehensive, multi-year program that expands Intel’s economic, educational and technology-related support throughout the Middle East.”

The alliance will provide a platform where students can apply research, education and training while developing innovative, new applications on Intel® Xeon™ Processor based platforms. The training will enable software developers to write and optimize software for Intel processor-based platforms.

The SCU, which is an advisory council for the universities in Egypt, is composed of universities’ presidents, vice-presidents, a selected number from each university, and three experts in the field of higher education appointed by a decree.

President of SCU Dr. Barakat said, “For Intel to have this collaboration with the SCU ensures that this program can be extended to the maximum number of universities and in turn benefit a large number of students.  We believe this is a tremendous chance for us to facilitate opportunities where the academic and business worlds interact to carry out research and build solutions that are necessary for economic and social development.”

As a part of this agreement, SCU will incorporate course materials, publish technical papers on their Intel 64-bit computing curriculum as well as extend this curriculum to the authorized universities. Intel and SCU will also set up the Center of Excellence that will serve as the foundation for conducting related R&D projects jointly with Intel or its industry alliances. Also included in this agreement are a number of joint initiatives such as training for students, academic lectures, knowledge sharing forums and industry projects in key upcoming technologies which will help align industry trends and the technical competence for the SCU.

Intel will also provide the SCU with advice from subject matter experts and technical support during whole project cycle from project identification, planning and implementation. In addition, Intel will assist the SCU to develop a breadth of knowledge and depth of skills required to train engineers for the global knowledge-based economy by conducting training sessions on Intel technologies for instructors and by providing courseware and course materials to the SCU as a part of this alliance.

This alliance, which is expected to cover 14 institutions within the SCU and train 100s of students on the latest Intel technologies over the next 2 years closely, follows the recent similar announcements by Intel Software College for alliances with other universities worldwide such as Universidade Estadual Paulista (Paulista State University, UNESP), Brazil and Zhejiang University, Peoples Republic of China. & Sarov University in Russia
