ALBAWABA - Dublin Airport said on Sunday that 12 passengers and crew members were hurt after a severe turbulence-affected Qatar Airways aircraft from Doha to Ireland. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flight QR017, made a safe landing at the appointed time despite the mishap.
A statement from Dublin Airport states that the aircraft landed just before 1:00 PM local time (12 PM GMT). When they arrived, emergency services, such as the fire and rescue squad and airport police, were ready to help. It has been verified that the aircraft's turbulence while over Turkey resulted in injuries to six passengers and six crew members.
According to passengers who talked with Ireland's Radio and Television Authority, the turbulence during the lunch service was a short but violent occurrence that lasted less than 20 seconds.
Related Incidents: This incident comes five days after a similar occurrence in which extreme turbulence forced a Singapore Airlines aircraft from London to Singapore to make an emergency landing in Bangkok. A 73-year-old British passenger lost his life in the tragedy, and 20 more people needed critical treatment.
According to a 2021 National Transportation Safety Board research conducted in the United States, turbulence is the leading cause of aviation-related injuries. Over one-third of all mishaps between 2009 and 2018 were caused by turbulence; these occurrences often resulted in significant casualties but usually did not damage the aircraft itself.
