An Indian national was beheaded Friday in Saudi Arabia after being convicted of smuggling heroin into the Muslim kingdom.

The official Saudi News Agency (SPA) identified the man as Said Bin Mahboob Saed Amir, quoting a statement by the interior ministry.

It said that the culprit was convicted by the court and the verdict was approved by the cassation court and the supreme judicial council.

Around fifty people have been executed this year for crimes ranging from murder, rape, drug trafficking and armed robbery.

The Saudi authorities repeatedly brush off criticism by human rights groups protesting against death penalty in the country, which applies the Islamic Sharia – Albawaba.com
