ALBAWABA - The Indian army confirmed it had killed two men who were among the gang that opened fire in a tourism spot in Kashmir, killing at least 26 people and injuring dozens of others, AFP reported, citing the army's Chinar Corps.
According to the army, the two gunmen were killed close to the contested frontier with Pakistan.
Chinar Corps also revealed on Wednesday that a "heavy exchange of fire" occurred with the gunmen, who the army said they participated in yesterday's attack at Baramulla.
"Two terrorists have been eliminated", the army added.
In a post on X, the Indian army stated, "The Chinar Cops-Indian Army X handle in a post confirmed the operation. The post stated, "Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation. A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists. Operation is in progress."
On Tuesday, a "terror" attack took place in Pahalgam, killing 26 people around 2:30 p.m. The Resistance Front, a local offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has taken responsibility for the carnage.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted, "I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.
Modi added, "Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger."
