Syrian authorities have begun using earth-moving equipment in an area believed to hold a mass grave of Islamists killed in 1980, according to the Qatari Al Raya daily, citing the Syrian Committee of Human Rights.
Citing the committee, the paper said bulldozers and other equipment on Tuesday night began transporting large amounts of earth from a site east of the Syrian desert town of Palmyra in the middle of the country.
Syrian dissidents say the site holds a mass grave for Muslim Brotherhood prisoners massacred by government forces in 1980.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the London-based Syrian human rights committee said work was underway to file a “crimes against humanity” case in the European courts against Rifaat Al Assad, the brother of the late Syrian president Hafez Al Assad. The brother led the forces allegedly responsible for the massacre – Albawaba.com
