The HSBC Racing Academy Is Underway

The 2007 HSBC Racing Academy selection process kick started this week a the Kartdrome track of the Dubai Autodrome. Excited UAE nationals aged between 14-25 years turned up to vie for top honours and progress to the next stage of this highly competitive selection process.

After completing a simple form, each entrant was entitled to a free karting session. “The Academy has opened up a rare opportunity for me to show my driving skills. The drive was very exciting and I do hope to advance to the next stage” said one of the entrants.

“The HSBC Racing Academy selection process has created enthusiasm among UAE nationals; this is the positive response we anticipated to cultivate the culture of motor sport culture amongst young UAE nationals” said Mr. Saeed Khalfan, Chairman of Dubai Autodrome.

Aspiring racing driver are urged to call 04-3678744 for opening and closing times and get down to the Autodrome before the selection process closes on 21st of October. On the conclusion of phase 1, the drivers with the top 60 lap times will advance to Phase Two which will commence on Saturday the October 28. Phase Three will begin on Saturday the November 4, and the 30 selected drivers will be taught the basics of driving a manual car using the Subaru Impreza WRX and the GTS sports car. Only the best 10 drivers will be selected to progress to Phase Four on Saturday the November 11.

The 10 drivers in Phase Four will then be instructed on all the basic skills needed to successfully drive a single-seater racing car and will be assessed against the clock. At the end of this phase, three drivers will be selected to undergo continued training at Dubai Autodrome preparing them to compete against the best in the world. The drivers selected for 2007 will be announced at the FIA GT Championship on November 18, 2006.

The fastest lap time so far is by Majid Al Naqbi who scored 1:16.493.
