Hertz Jordan has given a big sponsorship boost to a Jordanian team of weightlifters preparing for the 3rd Arabic Clubs Championship taking place in Amman in April.
The car rental company is providing a whole package of support to the Yarmouk Club based in the Baqa'a Refugee Camp in Amman including sponsoring a three-week training camp in Syria and supplying new sports shoes, tracksuits and competition wear.
Each of the team members will also receive a cash contribution to help them meet the costs of competing in the event plus a cash bonus if they manage to win a bronze, silver or gold medal for their club.
The Arabic Clubs Championships, which takes place in Amman’s Sport City from April 21 to April 26, brings together the best club weightlifting teams from countries across the Arab world including Jordan, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, the UAE, Algeria, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The Yarmouk Club is one of three clubs from Jordan taking part and has four male and four female competitors as well as two coaches. The team members have all taken part in championships in previous years and most have brought back bronze, silver and gold medals.
Awad Al-Aboudi is one of the stars of Jordan’s national team and competes in the heavyweight + 105 Kg category. His impressive list of achievements includes gold medals in the Arab Championship in 2001 and 2002 and gold medals in the Arabic Clubs Championships in 2003 and 2005.
The other male competitors include Omar Al Jabiri, who competes in the 85 Kg weight category, and won first place in his class at the Arabic Clubs Championships in 2003 and 2005. Majdi Al-Aboudi competes in the 77 Kg category and won a silver medal at the championships in 2005 and Mohamed Al-Aboudi, taking part in the 69 Kg category, netted a bronze medal in the same year.
In the female categories Asmahan Mohamed Al Sahoury competes in the 48 Kg class and Asma'a Hilal competes in the 58 Kg class. Both women won gold medals in the Arabic Clubs Championship in 2005. Shahdah Yaakoub, in the 75 Kg category, won gold medals at the championships in 2003 and 2005, while Faten Al Bakheet, competing in the 63 Kg category, has participated in the championships three times bringing home bronze and silver medals.
As well as sponsoring the Yarmouk Club, Hertz Jordan is also playing a major role in supporting the event by providing transportation free of charge to convey all the teams into Amman from the airport and Jordan’s border points as well as taking them from their accommodation to the competition hall and back.
Najati Shakshir, General Manager of Hertz Jordan, said: “We are very proud that this major sporting event is taking place in Amman and that Hertz Jordan is able to support it by providing a transportation service for the participants.
“We are also delighted to be able to give particular help to the Yarmouk Club and wish them all the best in the competition. Not only is it a fine sporting club with impressive achievements in a number of sports but it also carries out important work in the community.”
Hertz Jordan regularly supports the Yarmouk Club in its work to provide education, healthcare, sports and social activities for more than 100 orphan children at the Baqa’a Refugee Camp. Every year Hertz provides scholarships to allow two orphaned students to attend university.
Hertz Jordan offers a comprehensive range of car rental and leasing services from ten branches in Jordan. There are now six branches in Amman, following the opening of a new branch in the city last year, with the others located in Petra, Aqaba and at the Dead Sea. The company is continuing to expand and upgrade its car rental fleet and is also planning to widen its network of branches across the Kingdom still further.
