EU Middle East envoy Miguel Angel Moratinos stated Friday the Lebanese government wanted to solve its conflict with Israel over the diversion of waters from the southern Wazzani River peacefully through the United Nations.

Lebanon wants to solve the dispute "peacefully through the United Nations and with the help and advice of other parties like the United States and European Union," Moratinos said Friday after talks with Lebanon's Prime Minister Rafiq Al Hariri.

"Hariri told me that Lebanon respects international law and will not take a drop over or under what the law permits," added Moratinos, who is in Beirut to take part in an conference on religions and conflict.

According to AFP, Lebanese officials said Friday the cabinet had decided to form a committee led by Al Hariri charged with defending Lebanon's right to exploit its water sources. (Albawaba.com)
