Gulf Air joins the growing list of supporters of Bahrain's popular annual sporting and charity event, The Bahrain Marathon Relay. The airline is the official carrier of the event which takes place on 17 November 2006.

Organised by the Bahrain Round Table under the patronage of General Organisation for Youth and Sports (Goys) and in association with the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA), the Relay will see around 125 teams running approximately three kilometers, following a 16-leg format.

"As the flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman, Gulf Air considers supporting this national event a worthwhile cause that is dedicated to raising funds for local charities to help the needy," says Gulf Air Vice President Marketing and Sales Lee Shave.

"Gulf Air is proud to associate with the event not only by being the official carrier but also by sending in a team to participate in the relay."

The annual sporting and fundraising event, which helped raise more than BD22, 000 for local charities last year, will see many international and national runners representing corporate houses, hotels, schools and other organisations.

Every participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a participant's medal and prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third placed men's/mixed teams and the first female team.
