Gulf Air president, Ibrahim Abdullah Al Hamer, has been elected to represent the Arab-owned airlines on the international Air Transport Association (IATA) Council for 2002, reported the Bahrain Tribune newspaper Thursday.

Al Hamer was invited to consider the new role during a recent meeting in Manama with the Director General of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO), Abdul Wahab Tiffah.

The meeting also discussed the agenda of AACO’s general assembly that will be held in Doha in May.

The agenda includes reservation automation, airport services and e-trade, said the Tribune.

Twenty Arab airlines are members of IATA and AACO.

IATA was formed in 1965 and Gulf Air joined it in 1980, said the paper – Albawaba.com
