Three members of the Islamic Jihad were killed Sunday noon when the booby-trapped car they were traveling in exploded after they opened fire on Israeli troops at the Gush Katif junction in the Gaza Strip. At least four troops were injured in the attack.
The military wing of the Islamic Jihad has claimed the attack. In a declaration on its website, the movement said the original plan aimed that two fighters would exchange fire with the soldiers, while the third will blow himself up near a group of troops. However, during the clash with Israeli soldiers the bomb inside the car was detonated.
The declaration identified the three members as: Suleiman Ali Ahmed Meqdad, 21, from Nuseirat, Sami Adel Abdullah Abdullsalam, 18, from al Bureij and Muhammed Izat Nimr, 18, from al Bureij.
Israeli occupation forces injured early Sunday dawn a Palestinian civilian in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, Palestinian medical sources reported.
Local Palestinian hospital officials told WAFA that Nabeel Mohammad Ahmad, 24, was wounded with a live bullet as Israeli troops, stationed at the Tal Zo’rob area, just south of Rafah city, opened fire at Palestinian civilians, living in the area.
Meanwhile, five Palestinian civilians were reportedly injured in the Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, as Israeli soldiers, stationed at the Jewish settlement of Naveh Dekalim, opened fire indiscriminately on nearby Palestinian-owned houses.
On Saturday afternoon, Israeli occupation forces destroyed 18 houses in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank leaving dozens of Palestinian families homeless. Israeli army bulldozers backed by several tanks demolished eight Palestinian houses in Al Salam neighborhood south of Rafah city, Palestinian security sources said. (Albawaba.com)
